East Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame Elects 2025 Class
The East Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame elected its 18th class, and it consists of 4 outstanding athletes and 1 State Championship team.
Marvin Gorgas was 2014 East Hampton High School Graduate and played basketball and baseball. By far, the most talented baseball player in school history. Marvin pitched a no hitter versus Cromwell. East Hampton's all time leading home run hitter, Marvin pitched 5 one hitters, was 8-0 regular season senior year with 0.62 ERA with 99 strikeouts and 8 walks. All Shoreline 4 years, All State Junior and Senior season, Shoreline Conference pitcher of year 2012, was only player known in Shoreline Conference to be both pitcher and player of the year. Marvin played internationally with team USA and was drafted in the 13th round by Seattle Mariners and played professionally for 5 seasons.
Tyler Wosleger was a 2008 graduate of East Hampton High School. Tyler was a 3 year varsity starter and was All Conference in his Junior year and All Area Middletown Press, All Conference, Shorelin Conference Player of the Year, and All State in his senior year as well as a Shoreline Conference Scholar Athlete. He was Senior Captain of the 2008 Shoreline Championship team. Tyler set the school record with 85 hits and hit .445 in his senior season with 28 RBI. Tyler went on to play 4 years at Division 1 Fairfield University and had a career .295 batting average and was a senior co-captain.
Blake Helveston was a 2002 East Hampton High School graduate and was an outstanding Cross Country, Indoor, and Outdoor Track performer. Blake won 2 Indoor State Championships in the 1000m. He was also part of the indoor and outdoor 4 x 400m State Champion relay teams. Blake was 3 time all state in Cross County and 2 time COC Cross Country Champion and 4 time All COC.
Nicole Muhlberg was a 2008 East Hampton High School graduate and excelled at both Soccer and Softball. In softball she was the team's offensive player of the year as a Junior hitting .440. In soccer Nicole was a2007 All Conference selection and 2nd leading scorer in the conference. Nicole was a 2 time all state selection for soccer in 2006 and 2007. Nicole went onto a stellar soccer career at D-2 AIC University.
The East Hampton High School 2014 Boy's Soccer Team was State Co-Champions. They had an overall record of 12-4-3. Following a tremendous regular season, the team kicked it into high gear for the State Tournament by defeating Housatonic 2-0, Canton 1-0 on penalty kicks, Griswold 2-0, HK 2-1 on penalty kicks, and tied Somers 0-0 in the finals.
The induction ceremony was held Friday evening October 24th at Blackeldge County Club in Hebron.
Hall of Fame Elects 4 Athletes and 1 Team
2024
The East Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame has elected four Star Athletes and one Team for its 2024 class.
The 1992 Boy's Cross Country Team was the first ever East Hampton High School Boys' team to ever win a state championship. And they did so in convincing fashion, running the table with a 9-0 conference record, and a perfect 18-0 overall record and winning the Charter Oak Conference and State Championships. Brad Caron, a 2007 Hall of Fame inductee was the coach, and the runners were Steve Graham, Kris King, Coleman Carden, Mike Foley, Dave Forsythe, Pat Rux, and Cully Roberts.
In addition, Brooke Pitcher, a 2009 graduate was a soccer and basketball star. She was a 4-year varsity starter in soccer and earned All-State honors in 2006. As a Basketball player, Brooke was a 4-year starter and 4th leading scorer in East Hampton history with 1,330 points. After graduation, Brooke enrolled in the Naval Academy and just recently retired from active duty.
Amber Sekoll Augenstein was a 2013 graduate and was a 3 time state champion pole vaulter winning the 2012 Indoor Championship as well as the 2012 and 2013 Outdoor Championships. Amber was "All New England" in 2012 with a vault of 11'3". Amber went on to compete at the University of Rhode Island.
Hannah Cook was a 2014 East Hampton High School graduate and an accomplished Cross Country runner and Track star. Hannah's high school accomplishments were many including winning the 2014 State Open High Jump Championship. Hannah also won 3 2014 State Championships in one day including the High Jump, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. She later competed for Division 1 Sacred Heart University.
Matthew Vaquenza was a 2-sport star and a 2014 East Hampton High School graduate. Matt was a 1,000 point scorer in basketball and was the all time leading goal scorer in soccer, playing in just his Freshman and Sophomore high school seasons. Matt went on to play for the Oakwood Academy soccer program for his final two years of high school prior to moving on to Big East Division I Xavier University where he starred for four years.
The 1992 Cross Country team, Brooke, Amber, Hannah, and Matt will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday October 25th, 6pm at the Blackledge Country Club. The evening includes a buffet style dinner. Tickets for the event are $55 each.
